There have been Foxes at our Municipal Park. Please do not feed wild animals. Forestry and Wildlife have been contacted and have a Trap placed to relocate the Foxes.Residents are reminded not to feed or handle wild foxes. Feeding foxes, or any other type of wildlife, is a public safety hazard and could result in wild animals being euthanized. Foxes Reported Near Municipal Park
PUBLIC ADVISORY: Wildlife Notice – Foxes Reported Near Municipal Park
The Town has received reports of wild foxes in the area, particularly around the municipal park. In line with guidance from the Provincial Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture (Wildlife Division), residents and park visitors are asked to observe the following safety measures:
DO NOT FEED THE FOXES Never offer food or hand-feed wild foxes. Feeding wildlife causes them to lose their natural fear of humans, creating a safety hazard for park visitors and often resulting in the animal having to be removed or euthanized.
SECURE FOOD & WASTE Ensure all park waste is properly disposed of in covered bins, and avoid leaving food, picnic scraps, or pet food unattended.
KEEP PETS LEASHED Keep dogs on a short leash at all times while visiting the park and ensure household pets are up to date on vaccinations.
GIVE THEM SPACE Do not approach, follow, or attempt to corner a fox. Maintain a safe distance and allow the animal an easy escape route.
Conservation Officers handle wildlife when there is a public safety concern. If you encounter a fox that appears aggressive, sick, or overly habituated to humans, please report it to the local Forestry and Wildlife District Office (Clarenville) at (709) 466-7439 or contact the Town Office.
